Whether your remodeling your home, cleaning out your garage or basement, you will require a dumpster to haul out the garbage. When choosing a dumpster for your needs, remember that there are certain limits to what you can put in them and specific rules you need to follow when renting them. At Signature Waste Disposal LLC, we know that renting a dumpster can be relatively simple, but there are several important factors to consider before and after renting a dumpster. Therefore, do a little research to get the appropriate dumpster and avoid any unwanted surprises.

As experts in waste disposal and management, we’ve created a handy checklist to help you pick the right dumpster with as little stress as possible. Follow our checklist for the best dumpster rental experience and deals.

1. You will need to have enough enclosure space for a dumpster. The footprint for either a thirty cubic yard container or a twenty cubic yard container is twenty-three feet long and eight feet wide.

2. Make sure there is a safe location for the dumpster, which is a stable flat ground.

3. Leave enough clearance for a dumpster depending on its size. Ensure there are no low hanging wires, trees, or any other obstructions around its height and to the garbage truck.

4. With placement potentially being on your driveway, we recommend that you place three sheets of plywood on the driveway for surface protection.

5. If the container is being placed on the street, check with your local Department of Traffic Engineering to see if a street permit is required.

6. If you require a container for a specific material, for example, concrete or trees, notify your dumpster company for possible special rates.

7. When you call in for your dumpster to be removed, make sure you have shut and secured the container door.

8. Also, before removing the dumpster, ensure that the area surrounding the container is clear of debris and parked cars so the driver can easily and safely access the container.

9. Do not overload the container! Each dumpster has a maximum capacity, and those limits are in place to ensure safety. Make sure to remove excess waste or inform the junk removal company of the type of job you have planned so that they can suggest the right-sized dumpster.

10. Make sure you do not put in prohibited items to prevent additional charges, especially tires, wet concrete, Freon-based objects, and car batteries. If there are any doubts regarding a particular object being placed in the dumpster, call your local dumpster company!

11. Always try and give notice of a day or two when acquiring any dumpster services to ensure the best assistance possible.

12. Make sure you provide placement instructions when ordering a container so that it is placed in the correct area the first time.

13. You need to either be on-site or available via phone call for your delivery. Drivers will make contact to ensure proper placement of the container.

14. Ensure to keep a note of your delivery date. Thirty days are provided for free with each of our containers, and then a rental of $5 per day will be initiated. It is your responsibility to call in for the removal of the container.

15. Check your local weather forecast. Rain can delay projects and possibly create ruts if the container is placed on the lawn.

16. If a dumpster is placed on a lawn, make sure there are no underlying water meters, septic tanks, or sprinkler systems that the truck would have to drive over.

17. Check with your local Department of Traffic Engineering or HOA (Homeowner Association) if a tarp is required over your container when not in active use.

18. Ask for an invoice. All invoices are sent through email. Check your inbox to see if it has been received or call the office for a new invoice to be sent out.

19. Get your payment confirmation. All accounts have a credit or debit card tied to them. Check your email for final receipts or contact the office for a receipt replacement.

20. Finally, check for dumpster sizes available for your project from your local waste removal company to ensure you get the dumpster size that best fits your project.
