When COVID initially hit, a large number of businesses and companies had to slow down the work they were doing. People were not sure about the jobs they were working, and if they would have them moving forward. The work market was very unpredictable, and to add to that, countries were shutting borders to prevent the spread of the virus, which was a massive blow to tourism, trade, travel and many other industries. Companies had to let their employees work remotely if they were looking to get anything done. Additionally, most people were also not allowed to work from their offices as there were restrictions on the number of people who could meet in closed areas.

When it comes to the next six months, we are working on slowly rebuilding our customer base with businesses and establishments starting to reopen.

COVID caused us to slow the working of our businesses with people not spending as much now as they would in the future. Additionationally, our customers were slow with their income, which was not ideal for business, so we were affected by that as well. The decrease in construction and construction sites temporarily shutting down led to a reduced need for dumpsters. The primary reason that this was happening was that construction, unlike a lot of other jobs adapting to the changes, was not something that people could handle remotely and had to be done in person.

We had to change the way we were running our offices. We also worked on changing the way that we were communicating. We separated our office management, to ensure there would always be someone available and healthy if another team member fell ill, which was quite common considering there was nothing that was going to change in the short run concerning the pandemic.

When it came to the jobs that people could handle remotely, we were making sure they were getting through without unnecessary meetings. We split the office and created two teams, one working remotely and the other in the physical office to work alongside drivers and mechanics.

As we have teams who are working remotely, communication is a necessary tool, now more than ever. Initially, with all the in-person meetings, it was likely that the entire team was on the same page. We have to make an extra effort when we are communicating now as every action that could affect the other members of the team has to be verbalized and shared to keep the business flowing smoothly for the team and customers.

We prefer not to have people and clients coming in and out of our office, and we want to keep all the people we are working with safe. We do allow our drivers and employees to enter and leave the office. To add to that, we meet customers outside their cars, so they also have minimal interaction to keep everyone safer. Additionally, we have hand sanitizers, gloves, masks and strict social distancing protocols in effect for those entering the office.

We do not have work hours when we are in construction and working in the dumpster industry as we have deadlines and have to put in additional hours on some days, while we might have slow days at other times.

As we run a dumpster company, we always have to travel to customers, but we implement and protect everyone using the safety of gloves, masks and social distancing. We work on discouraging in-person meetings, but when we have people who want to meet and coordinate work in person, we work on them on a need only basis and make sure that all parties involved are happy with the interaction. In our experience, most issues are resolvable over the phone or a meeting that did not have to take place in person.

We have not considered video conferencing in our industry, and it is not that common that we do, so we are staying away from it. In addition, we do not always have good cell phone reception when we are on-site, so we work with regular calls which makes the process easier. Neither are we planning to take part in any virtual conference, which makes the process a lot easier.

The lengths that all the people, our staff, team and customers have taken over the past few months to ensure everyone’s safety was highly appreciated and noticed. We want to ensure that all persons remain safe during this time and that wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s cooperation. It has been stressful for all, but the courtesy of our team and customers was highly noticed.
